Das seltene Monumentalwerk der Archäologen Marshall und Foucher über die Altertümer der im indischen Bundestaat Madhya Pradesh liegenden Ortschaft Sanchi, die vor allem wegen der aus dem zum Teil aus dem 3. Jahrhundert v. Chr. stammenden buddhistischen Stupas berühmt ist. Marshall leitetet zwischen 1912 und 1919 die Aufbau- und Restaurierungsmaßnahmen, durch welche die Bauwerke in den heutigen Zustand gebracht wurden. Sanchi dokumentiert die Entwicklung buddhistischer Architektur über einen Zeitraum von beinahe 1500 Jahren. - Nur vereinzelt gering fleckig.

Sanchi is the location of several Buddhist monuments dating from the 3rd century BC to the 12th and is one of the important places of Buddhist pilgrimage. - Slight spotting in places. Bound in original cloth, some rubbing, some damage to inner joints.
