Jh. mit reicher Vergoldung.

Vgl. Bordoli, L'Ultimo Testamento di Paolo Giovio (in: Periodico della Società Storica Comense 50, 1983, S. 87-116). - Zeitgenössische oder wenig spätere Abschrift von Giovios Testament, abgefaßt in Florenz am 4. August 1552 "... sanus corpore quantumque etas et podagra patiunt, et mentis et animi compos". Giovio starb 4 Monate später. Nach einem Medizinstudium in Padua, Pavia und Rom praktizierte Giovio zunächst als Arzt, war bald aber fast nur noch journalistisch und historiographisch tätig. "Nur wenige humanistische Geschichtsschreiber kommen an historischer Bedeutung Paulus Jovius gleich" (Fueter 52). Das Papier trägt als Wasserzeichen einen Kreis mit einkonturigem Stern (ähnlich Briquet 3088 und fast identisch mit B. 3090, beide Ferrara, 1558), zu Beginn des Textes wurde von anderer Hand das Datum "1557" hinzugefügt. Außer der vorliegenden Kopie sind nur zwei weitere Exemplare des Testaments bekannt (in Como und Florenz), unser Exemplar ist wohl das einzige in Privatbesitz. - Stellenw. etwas fleckig, Papier teilw. durch Feuchtigkeit etwas mürbe, mehrere Bll. mit teils hinterlegten Fehlstellen, erste 2 Bll. mit größerer Reparatur (mit Textberührung).
The will of Paolo Giovio in an early copy, dating to his lifetime, or the years immediately following. Latin manuscript on paper, Northern Italy (probably Florence or Ferrara), c. 1552. Apart from the present manuscript, only two other manuscripts survive (State Archives of Como and Archives of Florence). - Some occasional staining, some water-damage causing weakness in several leaves, partly restored, larger repair to first 2 leaves affecting text. Laid in a 19th-century gilt-tooled leather folder.
