Burden 588; Sellers/Van Ee 1499; Koeman IV, S. 393/134. - Seltene Seekarte in Westorientierung. 3. u. letzer Zustand mit der Num. 19 in beiden Unterecken; unser Ex. wohl aus einer Ausgabe um 1780, gedruckt auf dünnerem Papier. - Tlw. leicht fleckig, Unterecken u. Oberrand jeweils bis in das Bild wasserrandig.

Rare sea chart of the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays oriented to the West. "A vastly improved map... because it utilises the landmark English map by Augustine Herrman, 1673(74)... One of the notable parts of the chart is the apparently unnoticed presence of a quaintly spelt Filadelfy. This is one of the earliest maps to include it and clearly illustrates the impact that the new colony was having not just in England but on the Continent as well" (B.). First publ. in 1684, here in its third and final state with number 19 in both lower corners, publ. from 1734 onwards. Our copy from an edition about 1780 printed on thin paper. - Uncol. Light spotting in places, waterstaining to lower corners and top affecting image.
