Naher Osten. "Quarta Asie tabula". Altkol. Holzschnittkarte (aus der von Nicolaus Germanus hrsg. Ptolemaeus-Ausgabe bei J. Reger, Ulm, 1486). Mit Kopftitel. 37,5:49,5-53,5 cm, in Trapezform.

S. 61; Tibbetts 7; Zacharakis/Scutari 2771/1814; Destombes, Cartes XV siècle Nr. 4423; Skelton, Facs. 1963. - Seltene Karte aus der 2. deutschen Ptolemaeus-Ausgabe bei Reger, der den kompletten Stock 1484 von L. Holle, dem Erstdrucker von 1482, übernehmen konnte. R. fügte bei den Karten die Kopftitel hinzu (mit dem immer spiegelverkehrt gesetzten "N", s. Skelton S. X), verzichtete aber auf die Bordüreneinfassung des rückseit. Drucktextes. Mit dem für diese Ausg. typischen Kolorit, u.a. das Meer in Braun - statt wie bei der EA. in Blau - koloriert, s. hierzu Destombes S. 65; unser Ex. auch mit ausgem. Initiale verso. - Schönes, farbfrisches Ex., nur stellenweise gering fleckig. Im Bug einige Wurmstiche u. unten kl. Wurmgang.
The "fundamental delineation of the Middle East" (Nebenzahl p. 16) between the Mediterranean Sea ("Mare Siriacum") and the Persian Gulf. Prominently marked are "Siria - Mesopotania - Babilonia - Arabia Deserta - Felicis Arabiae Pars", and Cyprus: "Ciprus" with numerous place names, rivers and the impressive Olympos. Scarce map from the second German ed. of Ptolemy, printed from the same woodblocks as the first one by Holle 1482, which was in fact the first ed. outside Italy and the first with woodcut maps. Can be distinguished by the heading, and the lack of decorative borders to the text on reverse, furthermore also by the colouring, e.g. "la mer a été teintée en sepia et non en bleu"; our copy also with col. initiale verso. - Contemp. col. Minor spotting in places; tiny stitches and small flaw caused through worming at centerfold. Else a fine copy with fresh colours.
