"L. was a land surveyor in the employment of the government and because of his death at the hands of the Tuscarora Indians was the cause of the exile of this tribe to New York state and its incorporation into the Iroquois Confederacy, by which the name of the latter was changed to the Six Nations" (Cox II, 91). - Somewhat foxed and stained; backed tear to map; last leaves (endpapers) wormed.
