Mit floraler Titel- und 2 Rollwerkskart. mit Nebenkarten sowie reicher fig. und maritimer Staffage; an 3 Seiten Leisten mit je 5 Trachtenpaaren seitl. und 6 kl. ovalen Ansichten oben. 41:55 cm.

S. 28; Tooley, America S. 298. - Anonyme Kopie einer bereits von Nicolas Picart 1644 angefertigten Kopie der Hondius-Karte von 1623! Mit gest. "Fol. 200" oben links. - Hier wie immer mit zahlr. Faltstellen, diese geglättet und vereinzelt mit kl. Löchern bzw. Rissen; Wurmgang oben links hinterlegt. Leicht gebräunt und tlw. etwas braunfleckig.

Scarce derivative of the famous map by Hondius of 1623, anonymously copied in its entirety from the one by Nicolas Picart 1644, and being the only one of the 4 continents which was reengraved for d'Avity. It can be easily recognized thru the different spelling of "Cartage" and the pagination "Fol. 200" at upper left border. "Despite the lack of originality it is one of the few printed maps of America with decorative borders, and as such is highly desirable" (B.). Among the 6 vignettes are 3 of North American towns: the village of the Pomeiooc Indians, Fort Caroline/Jacksonville and St. Augustine. - Uncol. Small tears resp. holes at former foldings, repairs to wormtrack at upper left affecting border. Light browning and some spotting in places.
