The First Map Devoted to Canada

Gereinigt, stabilisiert und restauriert: einige große Bruchstellen hinterlegt (davon 1 links im Bildrand), Bildverlust oben rechts ergänzt und nachgezeichnet (ca. 5:5 cm); etwas gebräunt und braunfleckig. Außenränder schmal verstärkt.

Rare map published in Lescarbot's important work; second and last state with 'Ile de Sable' written vertically. "This is the first detailed map devoted to Canada... Pre-dating the more familiar Champlain map by three years, it accompanies the first published history of the French settlements in America" (Burden). Showing the Indian village 'Hochelaga' (= Montreal) and with Québec: "Kebec is shown here for the first time on a printed map in its Micmac form" (B.). - Uncol. Somewhat toned. Cleaned, sized and restored: some partly large cracks restored (1 vertical at left margin), loss of image at upper right (ca.5:5 cm) replaced in mss. Some browning and spotting; margins reinforced.
