A. Vavassore von 1553. Erstmals von Forlani mit Dat. 1563 hrsg. (nur 1 Ex. in der B.N. Rom bekannt). - Wohl Ende 18. Jhdt. mit geglätteter Bugfalte auf Karton aufgelegt, die Einfassung zinnoberrot und weiße Ränder dunkelbraun übertuscht; das Kartenkolorit stammt wohl auch aus dieser Zeit. Etwas gebräunt und fleckig, linkes unteres Viertel leicht wasserrandig und Kolorit dort durch Wasserschaden tlw. verblaßt bzw. ausgewaschen.

Rare map first published by Paolo Forlani with date 1563 (only one copy known), here in its second state (of 3); based on the map by Vavassore of 1553 and after the anonymous edition of 1561, ascribed by B./R. to Camocio. "The area shown is enlarged, some mountains, passes, river springs are particularly well indicated. The origin from Gastaldi's map is clear" (Nov.). "Cucagna scrive: 'Questa nitida stampa del Forlani... è identica alla carta del Friuli stampata anonima nel 1561-63. La presente però non è una ristampa dello stesse rame, ma una reincisione'" (P.). - Most probably entirely laid down on thick cardboard in the 18th century, and with 18th cent. or earlier colouring. Some browning and spotting, some waterstaining to left lower quarter of map affecting colouring.
