"Wissenschaftshistorische Bedeutung hat diese Fassung von 1552 einmal als erste italienische Ausgabe mit der Nennung von Giacomo Gastaldi als Autor" (M.). - Mit Wasserzeichen: Armbrust im Kreis. - Mit leichtem Plattenton; gereinigt u. stabilisiert, vereinzelt noch leicht fleckig. Scarce, important and "very influential map, it was destined to circulate widely and be reprinted frequently in Italy during the next fifty years... Copied from the lost 1549 or 1550 map of Heinrich Zell" (K. p. 225-6; see next 2 lots). According to Meurer this map of Germany is the first Italian map mentioning Gastaldi as cartographer. - With watermark: "Crossbow in circle B; flathead crossbow" (cf. Woodward 204ff.). - Uncol. Lightly toned; cleaned and sized, still slight occasional spotting. Small wormhole at lower left corner of image.
