Geschenkexemplar des Sultans

Türkei. - Constantinople (Deckeltitel). Ca. 1897. Qu.-fol. (31:40 cm). Bildgröße ca. 16,2:22,3 cm. Roter Maroquinband d. Zt. (sign. A. Tarnawski, Relieur de S.M.I. le Sultan) mit reicher Blind- u.

Magnificent album from the Sultan's bookbinding workshop. Presumably given by Sultan Abdul Hamid II as a gift to Otto Kapp, the famous engineer of the legendary railway line from Constantinople to Baghdad. With the sultan's tughra on the front cover and Kapp's manuscript inscription to fly leaf. With 24 photochrome views of Istanbul mounted on cardboards. - Foxing to  cardboards. Bound in contemporary red morocco, richly gold- and blindstamped, with coloured celluloid inlays, somewhat rubbed to extremities, metal inlays partly removed.
