"This 1573 edition includes the same maps as the 1572 German edition, with the letterpress text from the same setting, and the maps of the Additamentum... inserted at the appropriate places. The new instructions for the bookbinder are pasted over the old ones" (K.). - Etwas gebräunt u. fleckig, Text, Ränder u. einige Ktn. insgesamt stärker; oben u. mittig streckenw. wasserfleckig. Hier u. da kl. Tinten- oder Rostflecken sowie kl. Läsuren.Knapprandiges Exemplar, fast alle Karten an einer od. mehreren Seiten angeschnitten, insbesondere seitlich. Ktn. durchgehend mit teils rep. Bug- u. Randläsuren, hier u. da mit kl. Bildverlusten, bei 1 Kte. Bug komplett überklebt. Bug der Welt- u. der Frankreichkte. noch bis zur bzw. bis über die Bildmitte angeplatzt. Deutschland-, Niederlande- u. Sachsen-Kte. stark gebräunt u. stark beschädigt, Kte. des Nahen Ostens mit großem Tintenfleck in der rechten Bildunterecke. Gest. Titel fleckig, beschnitten u. mit Läsuren (kl. Wurmlöcher, Eckabriss mit Bildverlust) aufgezogen, verso das beschnittene Cicero-Zitat montiert.
Second authorized German edition, "the rarest issue of the atlas of Ortelius" (Sabin). Illustrated with engraved title and 69 double-page engr. maps, all in fine contemporary colouring. - Some bronwing and spotting, stronger in places; partly some waterstaining at top and center, ink or rust stains or small defects here and there. Narrow margined copy, almost all maps partly shaved, especially at sides. Repaired defects to margins and centerfolds throughout (with small losses of image here and there), centerfold of 1 map pasted over, 3 maps severely browned and damaged, large tear to folds of world map and map of France, large ink stain to map of the Middle East. Engr. title spotted, trimed and mounted (with small wormholes and corner tear with loss of image), verso mounted the Cicero quote. Bound in recent half-calf and preserved in half-cloth slipcase.
