Shirley, T.SEU-1a Anm. - Früher Seutter-Atlas dessen Umfang erst später sukzessive erweitert wurde. Enthält Weltkarte, 4 Erdteile, 12 europäische Länderkarten (darunter Rußland in 2 Bll.) sowie Palästina. Alle Karten in frühen, kräftigen Abdrucken noch ohne Druckprivileg und ohne Seutters Titel eines Kaiserlichen Geographen. Die Kartenfolge entspricht genau dem lose beiliegenden späteren gest. Register, während das Verlagsverzeichnis am Schluss der Anleitung noch keine Schweiz-Karte auflistet. - Teilw. etwas fleckig, Ränder auch fingerfleckig. Einige meist reparierte Bug- und Randläsuren, stellenw. kl. Quetschfalten, Polen-Kte. mit vertikaler Knitterfalte. Das Front. mit Schabstelle im Bund (mit kl. Bildverlust), 2. Bl. Drucktext stärker beschädigt u. repariert. Letzte Karte aus einem anderen Exemplar ergänzt. Exemplar im typischen Seutterschen Flächenkolorit, Kartuschen unkoloriert. "Seutter first published his Atlas Geographicus in 1720 and added to the contents in subsequent editions under the title Atlas Novus" (Shirley). With engraved frontispiece, engr. title and 19 double-page maps, all in full contemporary colouring, cartouches uncoloured. All maps still without privilege and without Seutter's title of an imperial geographer. The sequence of maps corresponds exactly to the loose enclosed later index, while the publisher's directory at the end of the instructions does not yet list a Switzerland map. - Some staining in places, some marginal thumbing. Tears to centerfolds and margins neatly repaired, occasional small printer's creases, map of Poland with vertical creasing. Abrasion to frontispiece (with small loss of image), large repaired tears to 2nd leaf of printed text. Final map added from another copy. Bound in recent limp calf, slightly rubbed.
