Mit 2 ausgem. fig. und Rollwerkskartuschen; eingefasst von kol. Leisten mit je 4 Trachtenpaaren, 2 Porträts, 4 Wappen sowie oben und unten insges. 12 Stadtansichten. 46:54,5 cm.

Schilder/Stopp, MCN VI, 83.2. - Selten. 2. Zustand (von 4) der 2. Frankreich-Karte von Hondius mit Randleisten; erstmals vor 1629 mit Hondius Adresse erschienen, nach dem Prototyp von N. Visscher. - Gereinigt u. stabilisiert, noch etwas gebräunt u. fleckig; zahlreiche Ortsunterstreichungen in Rot u. einige hs. Notizen in Tinte von alter Hand (verblasst). Rundum bis in die Einfassung beschnitten und angerändert, unten die Ecken sowie Einfassungslinie nachgezeichnet; vereinzelt kl. Knickfalten in den Rändern.

Rare carte-à-figures in its second state (of 4) with Cloppenburgh's imprint; this is the second map of France first published "by Jodocus Hondius Jr. (before 1629)" (Schilder/Stopp p. 351). The geographical content is based mainly on Blaeu 1607, and the fine decorative borders largely on Visscher: portraits of Louis XIII. (as an adult with moustache) and Anne of Austria, 4 armorial shields, 4 pairs of costumed figures at either side, and 12 views along top and bottom: Poitiers, Bourges, Paris, Lyon, Orleans, Angers, Calais, Rouen, Bordeaux, Marseille, Beaumont and Tours. - Col. Cleaned and sized, still some browning and spotting; several underlinings in red and some old ink annotations (faint). Cut just into neatline and remargined, small losses at bottom replaced in mss. A few small marginal creasefolds.
