Funck 397 (Stradanus). - Zweite Ausgabe, selten. Mit der Titelvariante, die statt der Jahreszahl 1582 einen kleinen Putto trägt. Lebhafte, künstlerisch hochstehende Jagdfolge von Galle nach dem Gemäldezyklus Hans Bols, "without doubt inspired by the drawings of Stradanus, whose 'Venationes' appeared in 1578" (Schwerdt). Im Laufe des Stichprozesses erschienen Ausgaben mit maximal 54 Tafeln. Unter den mannigfachen Darstellungen von Jagd, Fisch- u. Vogelfang sowie Marktszenen auch die bemerkenswerte Walfang-Darstellung Barthelmeß-Münzing 11. Die Autoren vermerken: "Welcher Walfangbetrieb des 16. Jahrhunderts mit diesem Kupferstich illustriert werden soll, ist nach wie vor nicht eindeutig geklärt". Das zentrale Fangmotiv dieser Darstellung wurde von Jan Breughel d.Ä. in sein um 1593 entstandenes Ölgemälde "Vision des Hl. Johannes auf Patmos" (B.-M. 33) eingebracht; weiterhin läßt sich Bols Darstellung seitenverkehrt als Kartusche der Neufundland-Karte van Doetechums (1592-94; B.-M. 12b) nachweisen. - Etwas gebräunt, gering stockfleckig.
