Leo I. Sermones. (Kulm oder Schlesien, Drucker des Leo I., Sermones, H 10015, ca. 1477-78, nicht nach 1479). Fol. (29,5:22 cm). 137 (st. 140) nn. Bll. (l.w.).  Hldr. d. 18. Jh., teilw. berieben, restauriert, Rücken unter Verwendung alten Materials erneuert.

Hain 10015; GW M17796; Goff L-130; Campbell 1104. - Sehr seltene Ausgabe in ungewöhnlicher Type. Das Werk konnte bis heute keiner Druckwerkstatt zugewiesen werden. In älteren Bibliographien werden Holland (Campbell) oder Köln (Goff unter Vorbehalt) genannt, nach heutigen Meinungen wird Polen als Herstellungsbereich vermutet. "Among the incunabula to which no printer, place, or date of printing can be assigned with certainty is a group of five editions 'sine ulla nota' which have figured in the handbooks sometimes as Dutch and sometimes as German. They are: Leo I. Sermones... All are printed with a single, heavy and unattractive type the face for the most part gothic but with an admixture of roman O, Q, S (two forms), and T, together with a few roman minuscules, including tied ct and st. As these minuscules are not found in the first three quinternions of the Leo but are normal at the end of the book, we may conclude that this was the first work, to be undertaken by the press" (Schoelderer, The printer of the Leo I. (114) in Lage (M) sowie eine weiteres weißes Bl. - Breitrandig, teilw. fingerfleckig, vereinzelt fleckig, stellenweise Wasserränder im Rand, mehrere alte Randanmerkungen. Einige Restaurierungen im Bund, größere auf Bl. (11v) u. (91). Erstes Bl. stärker fleckig. - Provenienz: Karl & Faber, Auktion 105 (1967).

Very scarce edition, most probably printed in Poland. - Some thumbing and waterstaining, spotting in places, heavier to first leaf, old annotations. Few restorations, heavier to leaf (11) and (91). Lacking two leaves of gathering (M) and one blank. 18th cent half-calf, restored and rebacked.
