The text of this edition (edited by Lesbroussart) was printed by Auguste Wahlen at Brussels in 1823-5. This undated atlas of lithographed plates was produced around 1830 to accompany the text. It was issued in parts, and it is possible that it began printing in about 1825 ... Wahlen had also produced an edition of Melling's Constantinople in 1829, and the atlas also contains lithographed versions of some plates from Melling's work" (Contominas). Die Originalausgabe von Choiseul-Gouffiers Werk erschien 1782-1822 mit Kupfertafeln. A. I. Mellings "Voyage pittoresque de Constantinople et des rives du Bosphore" erschien zuerst 1809 -1819. Die Tafeln zeigen neben Altertümern und archäologischen Funden zahlreiche malerische Ansichten von Städten und Ortschaften, meist mit reizvoller figürlicher Staffage. Unter den Künstlern finden sich bedeutende Lithographen der Frühzeit wie Delpierre, Jehotte, Lauters, Lemonnier, Neutzlich, Peetermans, Plou, Senefelder u.a. Kollation des vorliegenden Exemplars: Der erste Band enthält 74 Tafeln (Blätter), die Abbildungen ("planches") sind numeriert 1-100, aber ohne die Nummern 14, 30, 53, 61, 71, 91; die Nummern 12 und 55 sind zweimal verwendet worden; Nr. 73 mit "fig." 1-4. Der zweite Band enthält 55 Abbildungen auf 53 Tafeln (diese in Bleistift numeriert 1-51 sowie 1bis und 30bis). - Stockfleckig. Inkomplett.

A new combined edition of the two formerly published travel works by Choiseul-Gouffier and Melling, which were illustrated with copper plates. - Foxing throughout. Bound in contemporary half-calf, gilt title to spine, rubbed, head and foot of spine chipped.
