"This is one of the most decorative and popular of all the early maps of Africa" (N.). "It first appeared in an atlas in this second state in Blaeu's Atlantis Appendix of 1630" (B.). Third state with Blaeu's name in the title cartouche changed to "Guiljelmo Blaeuw" and with additional hachuring around the sea monster (cf. Betz); our copy from the French edition 1643-50. - Col. in outline to map, decorative borders uncol. Overall browning and some spotting.
