Über den natürlichen grünen Farbstoff, bekannt als Lo-Kao, und seine Herstellung aus in China angebauten Pflanzen, die Mitte der 1850er Jahre in Mengen nach Holland, England und Frankreich importiert wurden. Bereits 1860 wurde der gesuchte Farbstoff durch das neu entdeckte Anilin-Grün verdrängt. Mit nachgebundenem eigenhändigem Widmungsbrief des Autors, datiert Paris, 18. April 1858 sowie mont. hs. Widmung auf dem Schmutztitel, ebenfalls "à Monsieur Chevreul, hommage de la Chambre de Commmerce de Lyon et de N. Rondot", adressiert ist wohl  Michel Eugène Chevreul (1786 -1889, französischer Chemiker, Begründer der Fettchemie und der modernen Theorie der Farben). - Innengelenke mit Gewebeband verstärkt. Vereinzelt minimal fleckig. Brief mit kl. Einriss im Falz.

Rare first edition. With 2 folding lith. plates and 5 mounted dyed textile samples on 3 plates. With the author’s presentation inscription on mounted slip to half-title and his manuscript presentation letter for the same "Monsieur Chevreul" (s.a.) from 1858 bound in at the end. - Inner hinges strengthened, minor staining in places, tear to fold of manuscript letter. Bound in somewhat later full calf, spine and corners renewed, rubbed and worn.
