BL, 17th Cent. Italian Books 581; diese Ausgabe nicht in Atabey. - Erste Ausgabe, sehr selten. Die British Library legt sich auf genaue Druckdaten nicht fest, vermutet aber Venedig im Jahre 1603. Nach BL erschien im selben Jahr eine 63 S. umfassende Quart-Ausgabe, erst mit dieser oder später die Erweiterungen durch Paolo Sarpi. "The Uscocs were Christian refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina who established themselves ... in Dalmatia during the early years of the 16th century, and from there they waged war against the Turks. Eventually they were moved by the Austrians to Zengg in Croatia where they turned to piracy, preying not only on the Ottoman fleet, but on all the commerce of the Adriatic. Only after their depredations brought Venice and Austria to the brink of war were their activities curtailed" (Atabey).- Gering gebräunt, nahezu fleckenfrei; Titel mit geringen Tintenspuren und etwas gebräunter; freies Vorsatz vorne mit altem hs. Vermerk, hinten mit Wasserfleck, hinterer Spiegel mit hs. Buchst. "S.".

Very rare first edition. - Slight browning, occasional minor staining or minor ink spoting; old annotation to front endpaper. Bound in contemporary limp vellum, little stained, restored at lower spine.
