"Dalrymple was the first critical editor of discoveries in Australasia and Polynesia" (Hill). Der erste Band war 1769 einzeln erschienen. Für die vorliegende zweibändige Ausgabe wurde die erste Lage neu gedruckt. Er enthält die Berichte spanischer Seefahrer von F. Magellan 1519 bis Pedro Fernándes des Quirós und Luis Vaez de Torres 1606. Band 2 mit Übersetzungen der Berichte holländischer Reisender: W. Schouten und J. Le Maire 1617, Abel Tasman 1642 und J. Roggeveen 1722. Enthält eine Weltkarte in 3 Segmenten, Seekarte des Südpazifik und 2 weitere Seekarten, darunter eine der Solomonen. Der Vortitel zu Bd. 2 in der Variante ohne die Angabe "Vol. II." - Schwach gebräunt, obere Innenecke stellenweise mit schwachem Wasserfleck, die Taf. teilw. mit schwachem Abklatsch auf der gegenüberliegenden Textseite, Karte des Südpazifik mit kl. Einriss am Falz; ohne den Vortitel zu Bd. 1.
