The most important work on Dutch Lepidoptera, one of the finest works on butterflies and moths ever published. A complete copy, including all three series (of series III only pt. 1 published) and the rare supplement of 1762. This supplement vol. interleaved with white paper, approx. 55 sheets of white paper bound in at end and with 2 contemp. manuscript booklets of additions (20 and 12 p.) enclosed. All together 18 volumes with 8 hand-coloured title-pages and 610 hand-coloured plates. Extremely scarce when in this completeness. - Some foxing to second series, else only minor occasional foxing. Little adherence of endpaper to inner margin of title page of vol. 4 from 1st series. Bound in mid 19th cent. half calf, blindtooling and gilt titles to spines (1st and 2nd seriers = 12 vols.); spines somewhat rubbed, heavier to vols. 2-4 of 2nd series, these partly decolorized, one joint split but firm. - Contemp. half cloth, orig. printed wrappers pasted to boards (supplement), somewhat stained. - Orig. printed wrappers (3rd series), spines of wrappers sunned, partial damage to wrappers of last vol.
