Vgl. Newhall, Birth of photography, S. 211ff. u. PMM 318b. -  Erste Ausgabe, da der Haupttitel fehlt, können wir nicht feststellen, um welche Variante es sich handelt. "Daguerre's technique of fixing photographic images on a metallic surface was the first to capture the public's curiosity and imagination, bringing photography out of the laboratories of a few researchers into the mass market. Daguerre's technical instruction manual ... went through eight French 'editions' in 1839 alone" (Norman 569). Der Text aller Varianten der ersten Ausgabe ist vom selben Satz und umfasst 79 Seiten sowie Titel, Vortitel und 6 Tafeln. In unserem Exemplar ist der Vortitel verso bis auf die Angabe der Druckerei leer ("Paris. Imprimé par Béthune et Plon."). Durch den Vergleich mit digitalisierten Exemplaren lassen sich Newhalls "issues" 2, 4 und 6 ausschließen, da deren Vortitel verso noch Anzeigen aufweist. - Tlw. leicht stockfleckig. Fehlt der Haupttitel.

First edition. Due to the lacking of the main title we can not determinate the issue, but we are able to exclude Newhall's numbers 2, 4 and 6. - Slight foxing in places. Lacking main title. Later cloth, lesion to free front endpaper.
