Forbes 1439 (nennt nur ein einziges Exemplar); vgl. Sabin 73149, Howes, R-438, Hill 259, Cowan-C. 542 u. Lada-M. 86 (alle die erste franz. A. 1823) sowie Hill 259 (engl. A. 1823). - Seltene, den meisten Bibliographien unbekannte zweite französische Ausgabe, ein erweiterter Neudruck der Pariser Ausgabe von 1823, ausgestattet mit neuen Titelblättern und zusätzlich je 2 Frontispizen und Tafeln, das alte Vorwort (S. I-XII) wurde entfernt. Roquefeuil,  Kommandant des Schiffes Bordeaux, reiste in den Jahren 1816-19 um die Welt, um neue Handelsrouten zu erschließen. "Attempts at trading in California, Nootka, and Sitka were financial failures. Despite lack of profit, however, France now had an up-to-date report on conditions on the west coast of America from California to the Aleutians, on Hawaii, the Marquesas, and on the prospects for trade in each of these areas. In the section on the northwest coast of America, Roquefeuil gives many details of the Indian inhabitants" (Hill). Mit großer Weltkarte in 2 Hemisphären und Karte der amerikanischen Nordwestküste. - Stellenw. leicht stockfleckig, vereinzelt schwach wasserrandig, hier u. da kl. Randläsuren. Bei beiden Bdn. am Anfang u. Schluss je 1 Bl. (Verlagsanzeige?) mit dem Umschlag verklebt. Insgesamt gutes, unaufgeschnittenes Exemplar.

Rare second edition, a re-issue of the Paris 1823 edition, with new title pages and plates added, and omitting pp. I-XII. With 2 engraved frontispieces, 2 folding engr. maps (world and northwest coast of America), and 2 folding engr. plates. - Light foxing in places, occasional marginal waterstaining, a few small marginal tears. At  beginning and end 1 leaf (publisher's advertisement?) glued to the cover. Overall a fine, uncut copy bound in original wrappers, with slight signs of wear and small marginal tears, tears to joints (esp. vol. 2).
