"Considerable work could be done on Salomon's sources for these cuts... But the cumulative effect of Salomon's carefully detailed scenes is that of an individual contribution to Bible illustration" (Mortimer). - Gleichmäßig schwach gebräunt, vereinzelt gering fleckig, Titel behutsam gereinigt, noch immer etwas angeschmutzt u. mit verblasstem Besitzvermerk in Tinte. Zu Beginn u. am Schluss wenige kleine Ergänzungen in Ecken bzw. an einzelnen Wurmspuren im Bundsteg. Fehlen, wie häufig, das Schlussblatt nur mit Ornament u. das letzte leere Blatt.

First Latin edition by de Tournes, richly illustrated with 198 woodcuts by B. Salomon. - Even slight browning, minor occasional staining, title leaf carefully cleaned, still little soiled and with remainder of owner's inscription in ink. Small marginal repairs to leaves of first and last quire. Lacking, as often, the last 2 leaves, one with fleuron only, the other blank. Bound in 19th cent. full morocco by Chambolle-Duru, gilt title to spine, inner dentelles and edges gilt.
