Kollationsgleich mit der 1494 in Venedig erschienenen ersten Ausgabe, hier jedoch in völlig neuem Satz. Weitere zeitgenössische Ausgaben sind nicht erschienen. Auch diese zweite Ausgabe von großer Seltenheit. Das erste gedruckte allgemeine Werk über Mathematik, und zugleich das erste Buch über doppelte Buchführung. Der ganzseitige Holzschnitt illustriert die Fingersymbolik für Zahlen, die geometrischen Teile mit Darstellungen von Fässern, Schatullen, Zelten, Säcken u.ä. zur Berechnung des Raummaßes. Titel- und Widmungstext sowie Schema-Holzschn. in Rot und Schwarz gedruckt. - Teilweise etwas gebräunt, kaum fleckig. Gelegentlich alte Tintenanmerkungen in feiner Schrift, Vorstücke im weißen Außenrand mit Feuchtigkeitsspur, Tl. 2 S. 70/71 mit kleinem Fleck. Sonst gutes und breitrandiges Exemplar. - Provenienz: mit den Exlibris von Baron Horace de Landau und Hans Fürstenberg; mit eingeklebtem Schild vorne "Exposé au musée d'art 1966".

Second edition, with the exception of the editio princeps of 1494 this is the only contemporary one. Extremely scarce. "The earliest printed book to treat algebra comprehensively, and the first to contain double-entry book-keeping. Pacioli has been described as "the father of the balance sheet" (Honeyman Coll. 2379). This work is the first general work on mathematics printed, includes treatises on arithmetic, algebra, and geometry..." (Smith). "...it contains the theories of Leonardo Fibonacci of Pisa (ca. 1170- 1250), whose works transmitted Hindu-Arabic numerals and theories to the West and thus marked the beginning of the mathematical renaissance. It discusses double-entry bookkeeping and presents methods of accountancy that have stood the test of centuries’. (Stillwell). - Partly some browning, minor staining in places. Few old ink annotations in a neat hand, prelims with small marginal dampstain, pt. 2, pp. 70/71 with small stain to text. Else a good and broad-margined copy. - Bound in old vellum over boards, spine renewed in old times, old ms.-title on first cover, some fair wear and staining to binding.
