Verwendet die gleichen Holzschnitte wie die ebenfalls 1551 von Bonhomme gedruckte große 8vo-Ausgabe, jedoch ohne die figürlichen Bordüren. Der Titel mit Druckermarke (Baudrier 8) ohne Holzschn.-Bordüre. "This edition is representative of the most extensively illustrated of the Bonhomme-Rouillé volumes. The series (of woodcuts) is frequently attributed to B. Salomon but should be assigned instead to P. Eskrich. Eskrich has expanded the scenes and added further detail, including additions for text unillustrated in earlier editions. The text for the new emblems was appended to Jean de Tourne's 1547 edition without woodcuts, so that Eskrich was the first Lyon artist to deal with these subjects" (Mortimer 15-16 zur großen Ausgabe). Unrecorded edition of reduced size, omitting the woodcut borders. With printer's device to title and 211 emblematic woodcuts. - Ruled throughout. Some browning and thumbing, waterstaining in places, marginal chip to 4 leaves with loss of pagination to leaf G1. Little worming to upper outer corner of p. 91-116. 18th cent. collector's stamp to bottom margin of title and last leaf verso. Lacking last blank. Fine contemporary full-calf, spine and covers gilt, edges gilt and gauffered, coat-of-arms of Madruzzo family to both covers; corners, ends of spine and front joint expertly restored.
