Erste Ausgabe der in sich abgeschlossenen Fortsetzung von Fludds 'Medicina catholica", einem Kompendium der okkulten Medizin unter Einbeziehung der übrigen Naturwissenschaften und auf der Grundlage christlicher Prinzipien. „Fludd has been characterized as ‚a philosopher, physician, anatomist, chemist, mathematician and mechanician‘ and credited ‚a rare gift of observation in the exact sciences.‘ But he still thought it possible and advisable to combine with this science and medicine not only a cloak of religion but also much of the occult science that had come down from the past: magic and cabala, astrology and alchemy, physiognomy and chiromancy, geomancy and weather signs“ (Thorndike VII, 443). Besteht aus folgenden Teilen:

I. Integrum morborum mysterium: sive Medicinae catholicae... Tractatus secundi sectio prima: in qua integrum morborum... [Tomus I, tractatus II, sectio I]. Mit 2 gest. Titelvignetten, Porträt Fludds Titel verso, 1 gefalt. Kupfertafel, 62 (1 doppelseitig) Textkupfern sowie einzelnen Textholzschnitten. 14 Bll. (d.l.w.), 503 S. - VD 17 12:167435P; Krivatsy 4139; Gardner 228; Wüthrich IV, 703, 9. - „A most voluminous work, with some excellent mystical plates. Contains a fine portrait of Fludd“ (Gardner). Das Inhaltsverzeichnis (‚Elenchus‘, die 7 Bll. vor S. 1) führt auch den Inhalt des ‚Katholikon‘ und des ‚Pulsus‘ mit Seitenzahlen auf, alle Teile sind also gleichzeitig erschienen. Mit dem Porträt des Autors und der Titelvignette, welche die Himmelrichtungen zeigt, sowie weiteren Kupfern von M. Merian. - Titel oben direkt über der Schrift abgeschnitten u. dadurch die Einfassung des Porträts verso gering angeschnitten. S. 43/44 nach S. 45/46 verbunden.
II. Katholikon medicorum katoptron (graece)... Sive ... De morborum signis. [Tomus I, tractatus II, sectio II]. Mit 2 gest. Titelvignetten, 18 (1 ganzs. gefalt.) Textkupfern, zahlr. schemat. Holzschnitten im Text u. auf 1 doppelblattgr. Taf. sowie 1 gefalt. Schrifttaf. 2 Bll., 413 (recte 407) S. - VD 17 12:167442X; Krivatsy 4139; Gardner 229. - "A most curious work on Divination, whether by Geomancy, Urine, Chiromancy, or Physiognomy, it is all detailed at great length with many cuts" (Gardner). Enthält ab S. 233 bzw. 255: "Ouramantia (graece), hoc est, divinatio per urinam (&) Ouromantia physiologica" (hierzu die beiden Titelvignetten).
Dazu als Anhang: III. Pulsus. Seu nova arcana pulsum historia, e sacro fonte radicaliter extracta. Mit 1 gest. Titelvignette, 12 Textkupfern, einigen Textholzschnitten u. 1 mehrfach gefalt. Bl. mit typograph. Bordüre. 93 S. - VD 17 12:167445V (Pulsus) u. 12:167449A (Faltblatt); Krivatsy 4139; Gardner 230 u. 231 (Faltblatt). - "He was the first to support Harvey's 'De motu cordis' in print... The 'Pulsus' includes Fludd's first defense of Harvey" (DSB V, 47f.). Das große Faltblatt "Medicamentosum Apollinis Oraculum" (mit Druckvermerk W. Hofmann 1630), das in vielen Exemplaren fehlt, hier zu Beginn des Katholikon eingebunden. Dass es zum „Pulsus“ gehört, wird durch die Kustode „Medi-“ auf S. 93 verso belegt, da es auch einzeln vorkommt, wird es z. B. von VD 17 auch selbständig verzeichnet. - Letztes Bl. aus einem anderen Exemplar lose beigelegt.

Insgesamt etwas gebräunt u. stellenw. leicht fleckig, kaum Randläsuren, im w. Unterrand streckenw. kl. Wurmlöcher.

With together 5 engraved title vignettes, engr. portrait, 1 folding engr. plate, 92 (1 double-page, 1 folding) text engravings, numerous woodcuts (1 on a double-page plate), and 2 folding leaves, 1 of which is the rare "Medicamentosum Apollonis oraculum" (bound in at the beginning of the Katholikon). - Some browning throughout, some spotting, small wormholes to lower blank margins in places. First title with cut-out at top (shaving border of portrait on verso), and p. 43 bound in after p. 46. Final leaf loose (supplied from another copy). Bound in contemporary blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards, slightly rubbed and stained, 1 corner worn, with a few small wormholes.
