Wurde von Nuyts auch als Bd. 2 von Maffeis "Historiarum Indicarum libri XVI." ausgegeben, daher in der Bogensignatur mit "Tom. ij." bezeichnet. - Stellenw. etwas gebräunt; Titel mit Besitzvermerk von 1620 u. verso wie S. 92 u. Schlussbl. mit Stempel.

First edition of this important collection of 55 letters and documents dated between 1577 and 1604, very rare. The first 636 pages deal with Japan, including 8 reports covering some 400 pages by Frois, other letters on Japan by Cabral, Organtino etc. Valignano is represented with 'Litterae Iaponiae' and 'Admiranda Regni Sinensis'. Some 200 pages are devoted to India ("Mogor") and "India Orientalis". Smaller sections on Peru, and the Philippines.This volume was originally intended as a companion to Nutius' 1605 edition of Maffei's 'Historiarum Indicarum' (therefore "Tom. ij." in signature mark) but is complete in itself. - Some browning in places; ownership inscription to title, stamp to verso of title and 2 text leaves. Contemporary pigskin over wooden boards, partly covered with paper, lacking free front endpaper.
