"Thevenot began his travels in the Levant in 1655, returning to Paris in 1659 to prepare the first part of his travels for publication, which describes Constantinople, the Archipelago, Asia Minor and Egypt. He left Paris in October, 1663 and travelled through Syria and Persia to India; Thevenot died near Tabriz in 1667. The second and third parts of his voyages were published posthumously by Petis de la Croix and the Sieur de Luisandre ... Thevenot's travels mark the beginning of the grand epoch of travel and exploration in the Levant" (Blackmer).
