"A very thorough manual of the subject, beautifully illustrated by J. G. Keulemans, Josef Wolf, E. Neale and others" (Zimmer). Hier mit dem oft fehlenden Supplementband, der erst 1895/96 erschien. "Dresser's collection of twelve thousand bird skins was used by Keulemans and the other artists" (Martin Libr.). Die Tafeln zeigen meist Vogelpärchen in Gezweig oder Landschaft in detaillierten, naturgetreuen Darstellungen. Prächtig koloriert, tlw. mit Eiweiß gehöht. Paginierung und Tafelnum. hier sauber eingestempelt, die Tafeln num. 1-722 u. 599A. - Breitrandiges Exemplar. Leicht gebräunt, vereinzelt etwas stockfleckig, Vortitel von Bd. 1 mit Eckabschnitt, Vortitel von Bdn. 3 u. 5 mit gelöschtem hs. Besitzvermerk.
Complete in 9 vols., including the often missing supplement. - Slightly browned, occasional little foxing, corner of half-title of vol. 1 cut off, scratched out ms. ownership inscription to half-titles of vols. 3 and 5. Bound in contemp. dark burgundy morocco, spine and upper edge gilt; minor rubbing, some chafing in places.
