William Cornwallis Harris (1807-1848), Offizier der Bombay Engineers der East India Company, wurde zwischen 1835 und 1837 zur Erholung auf die Kaphalbinsel geschickt. Während dieser Zeit reiste er in Begleitung von Richard Williamson von Algoa Bay über Somerset und den Oranje-Fluss bis zu den Kraals des Matabele-Häuptlings Moselikatze. Die fein kolorierten Lithographien entstanden nach Zeichnungen Harris'. - Text gelegentlich gering stockfleckig, einzelne Textblätter gegenüber den Vignetten gebräunt. Mehrere Tafeln im Rand kaum stock- bzw. fingerfleckig.

With lith. title with hand-coloured vignette, 30 hand-coloured lith. plates and 30 lith. vignettes in the text. - Occasional slight foxing to text, individual leaves opposing vignettes browned. Minor marginal foxing or fingerstaining to several plates. Contemporary red half-marocco (sign. J. Mackenzie & Son) spine gilt, gilt label to spine, gilt fillets to covers, edges gilt; somewhat bumped, slightly rubbed, abrasions to front corners, small abrasion to back cover, minor staining.
