Bd. 1 behandelt Nordamerika und die Karibik (Karten num. 1-102), Bd. 2 Südamerika (1-89 u. 39*, 61*), Bd. 3 Asien/Afrika (1-124 u. 3*, 92*, 95*), Bd. 4 Europa (1-128 u. 50*, 109*) und Bd. 5 Frankreich (1-132). Mit Weltkarte (dreimal wiederholt), See- und Küstenkarten, Hafenplänen etc. In Bd. 3 sind die Ktn. 123 u. 124 doppelt eingebunden (oben nicht mitgezählt). - Stellenw. etwas gebräunt od. fleckig, Ränder u. insbes. die Oberecken wasser- u. sporfl., stärker in den Bdn. 4-5 (in diesen beiden Bdn. Oberecken teils ausgefranst od. verstärkt), vereinzelt kl. Randläsuren. In Bd. 2 Kte. 27 die seitl. Faltstellen durchgerissen u. hinterlegt; zu Beginn von Bd. 3 Wurmspuren im w. Unterrand u. Kte. 47 links bis an die Einfassung beschnitten; Kte. 73 in Bd. 4 seitl. angeschnitten; in Bd. 5 Kte. 109 vor Kte. 107 eingebunden.

The complete five-volume set of Bellin's maritime atlas containing engraved general and 6 engr. part-titles, engr. dedication and indices to each volume, and 582 engr. maps, charts and plans, including all 7 additional maps listed by Phillips. "Many of the maps are reproductions in reduced size of maps and charts occurring in Bellin's previous atlases. But there is also a large amount of fresh material" (NMM). Vols. 1 and 2 are devoted to the Americas, vol. 3 to Asia and Africa, vol. 4 to Europe and vol. 5 to France. In vol. 3 maps 123 and 124 are bound in twice (not counted above). - Some browning or staining in places, waterstaining resp. mildew spotting esp. to upper corners, more severe in vols. 4-5 (in these 2 vols. upper corners partly frayed or reinforced), only a few marginal tears or holes. In vol. 2 torn foldings of map 27 rep., beginning of vol. 3 with some wormholes to lower blank margin and map 47 cut close to border at left; in vol. 4 map 73 shaved at sides; and in vol. 5 map 109 misbound. Bound in contemporary marbled calf, gilt spine and all covers with the gold-embossed coat-of-arms of Louis XV; somewhat rubbed and worn, upper corners of vol. 2 chipped, head and tail of spines partly frayed or reinforced, small tear to lower joint of vol. 1 and upper joint of vol. 3 broken.
