Cast in a catechetical form of questions and answers typical of 16th century astronomy textbooks, it treated all of heliocentric astronomy in a systematic way, including the relations now called Kepler's law's ... J. L. Russell has maintained that from 1630 to 1650 the 'Epitome' was the most widely read treatise on theoretical astronomy in Europe" (DSB VII, 302). Bd.1 als Titelausgabe der ersten Ausgabe, Bd. 2 in dritter u. Bd. 3 in zweiter Ausgabe vorliegend. Caspar schreibt zur Ausgabe von 1635, sie sei ein "in Titel und Text wortgetreuer Nachdruck... Es liegt aber nicht eine bloße Titelausgabe vor", worauf Dünnhaupt feststellt, er "zitiert die Vorstücke falsch, da er kein Expl. einsehen konnte". Falls Caspar sich doch auf ein bestimmtes Expl. bezog, könnte es sich ebenfalls um die vorliegende Titelausgabe handeln. Kollation: 14 Bll., 417 (recte 409) S., 1 w.; 1 Bl., S. 419-622, 1 Bl. With numerous woodcut illustrations in text and 1 folding table. - Vol. 1 slightly browned and with a faint water stain to the bottom outer corner at the beginning, title more heavily browned, somewhat heavier foxing to vols. 2 and 3, occasional small creases or tiny marginal tears. - II. Second edition, rare. With numerous woodcuts in text, 3 woodcut-borders and 2 printer's devices. All volumes with separate title pages but continuous quire signature. Printer's device at the end of vol. 2 and on the title page of vol. 3. - Slightly browned, little stronger to title and a few leaves.
