Scarce bird's eye-view of Valletta and surroundings, illustrating the conclusion of the siege and the arrival of the so-called "Grande Soccorso" (Great Relief) in September/October 1565. Third state (of 4):"In true journalistic style, Camocio decided to waste no time to be the first in the market with an illustrated report of the end of the siege... 'presi da Christiani'... Along the top of the map... the whole eastern section of the Sicilian channel is filled with ships" (G. p. 276f.); furthermore at bottom with the added letters S.P.C.(= "Signor Pompeo Colonna"). - With watermark: Lozenge containing six-pointed star in circle (mentioned by Ganado; cf. Woodward 289-296). - Uncol. Light occasional spotting, stronger at sides, each side with small repaired tear just affecting engraved area, there also strengthened. Small crease mark at top of image.
