"The book is divided into three parts, the first of which treats of the inevitable comparison between literature and the science of arms; the second of offence and defence... The third part treats pretty exclusively of fencing, and therein is to be learned that Viggiani taught seven guards" (Thimm). - Stellenweise leicht gebräunt, teilweise gering braun- oder fingerfleckig, Titel etwas stärker betroffen u. mit kl. Fehlstelle im Fußsteg, zahlreiche Anmerkungen von alter Hand, das Textkupfer auf Bl. 57 verso mit geringem Verlust bis in die Darstellung beschnitten, wenige Bll. am Schluss mit kl. Feuchtigkeitsflecken.

Second edition with engr. coat of arms on title, 1 portrait and 9 text-engravings. - Lightly browned in places, some minor brownstains or thumbing here and there, title page slightly more affected and with small abrasion to footer, numerous ms. notes, the text-engraving on fol. 57 verso trimmed with minor loss of image, small dampstain to lower outer corner of few leaves at the end. Later 18th-century-style leather binding with spine label, gold-tooled covers, edges and spine; little rubbed.
