Die berühmte herzförmige Weltkarte wurde vom unveränderten Block der Ausgabe Antwerpen 1544 gedruckt, der 1551 nach Paris gelangte. Enthält auch die häufig fehlende Holzschnittafel zu Blatt 22 mit Darstellung eines Erdglobus. Die Holzschnitte auf Bl. 11v, 30r u. 57r mit drehbaren Teilen, der Holzschnitt auf Bl. 9v nur mit Schnur (zur Befestigung eines kleinen Bleigewichts; ohne den Anker), der Holzschnitt auf Bl. 8v mit Ausriss u. ohne das bewegl. Teil (liegt auf altem Papier faksim. lose bei). Bis Bl. 58v Apians Text (inkl. Beschreibung der Neuen Welt) mit Gemma Frisius' umfangreichen Anmerkungen, danach dessen erstmals 1533 gedruckten Werke "Libellus de locorum describendorum ratione", in dem er als erster das noch heute verwendete Prinzip der Triangulation zur Landvermessung beschreibt, sowie sein "Usus annuli astromici". - Gebräunt, gering stockfleckig, vereinzelt im Rand gering fleckig, zu Beginn im Rand mit Tinten- und Braunflecken, ab Bl. 63 etwas wasserfleckig, Bl. 8 mit Loch im Zentrum mit etwas Verlust an den 2 schemat. Holzschnitten recto u. verso, letzte 2 Bll. mit Randläsuren. Fehlt 1 bewegl. Teil zu einer der Volvellen.

Second Latin edition to be printed in Paris, a reissue of the Gaultherot edition of 1551, which only changed the last figure of the date on the title-page from 1 to 3, but left the colophon unchanged. Illustrated with the famous folding truncated cordiform woodcut world map (Shirley 82, block 1), the often missing plate depicting an earth globe and numerous woodcuts in the text, 3 (of 4) as volvelles. Woodcut on fol. 9v with string (for fixing a small weight; but without anchor). - Some browning, light foxing, some marginal staining in places, larger waterstaining to leaves 66-70. Fol. 8 has a hole in the centre with some loss to the two schematic woodcuts, the moving part of the volvelle of 8v is lacking (supplemented as a loose facsimile on old paper). Minor marginal fraying to 2 final leaves. Bound in contemp. flex. vellum; warped and stained, ties removed.
