Shirley 17 ("there are variations in lettering between one printing and another") und 15; Brunet III, 1642; Reiss & Sohn, Auktion 138, Nr. 1094 mit Abb. - Sehr selten, hier aus der letzten französ. Ausgabe des "Rudimentum novitiorum" (zuerst Lübeck 1475, französ. 1488), mit den bei Shirley angegebenen Merkmalen sowie der Bogensign. "LIII (& verso) LII". - Rückentext leicht durchschlagend. Gesamtblatt leicht gewellt.

Rare and famous wood cut map of the world, first published in the Rudimentum novitiorum at Lubeck 1475, a popular universal history. The book was re-issued with new maps first in Paris 1488, and again in Lyon 1491; the latter woodcuts were also used in the subsequent ed. from 1506 up to 1555, with the changes as mentioned by Sh., e.g. 'Trabobata' separated from 'Trabobana' and with 'Le royaue. des fêmes'. The present copy comes from the last edition of 1555 by Les Angeliers & O. Petit. The obvious differences to the map illustrated by Shirley are: additional lettering outside the frame incl. wind directions and small notes on Europe, Africa and Asia, furthermore with pag. "LIII (& on verso) LII". - Uncol. 2 sheets, joined. Light shine-through of text. Slightly undulated.
