Es gilt als das erste systematische Lehrbuch der plastischen und rekonstruktiven Chirurgie in der Geschichte der Medizin. "This work ... is a classic in the history of plastic surgery and is especially noteworthy for its description of rhinoplasty ... Tagliacozzi also fully discussed the complications, such as hemorrhage and gangrene, that often occurred during these operations" (Heirs of Hippocrates 379 zur EA. in Folioformat). Trotz des deutlich verkleinerten Formats enthält die vorliegende Ausgabe alle 23, meist ganzseitigen Holzschnitte, nach den ikonischen Illustrationen der vorherigen Folioausgaben. - Gleichmäßig leicht gebräunt, vereinzelt kl. Flecken, teilweise mit kl. Wurmlöchlein oder Wasserfleck im Fußsteg, S. 34 geringer Buchstabenverlust durch papierbedingte Fehlstelle, fliegendes Vorsatzbl. vorne mit 2 alten Besitzvermerken.

Third edition overall, first 8vo. With printer's device on title and 23 woodcut illustrations in text. - Evenly lightly browned, few minor spots, small wormholes or water stains to bottom margin in places; minor loss of text due to a paper-flaw to p. 34, old ownership inscriptions to front fly-leaf. Contemporary vellum with yapped edges and ms. title to spine; slightly dusty in places, a little stained, extremities partly bumped, front inner hinge cracked, rear inner hinge partly cracked.
