Millard I, 3; nicht bei Fowler u. im Ornamentstichkat. Bln. - Erste Ausgabe. Das vor 1628 entstandene Manuskript wechselte nach dem Tod von Aleaume mehrfach den Besitzer. Ein vor 1641 geplanter Druck von Riccolet und Hulpeau mit Holzschnitten wurde nicht ausgeführt. Mit dem Übergang des Manuskripts an Langlois konnte der französische Mathematiker Étienne Mignon die Bearbeitung und Herausgabe übernehmen. “The most important architectural project of the engineer Jacques Aleaume was the planning of Henry IV's important but unrealized project for the Place de France. His treatise on perspective was his major contribution to the field of architectural theory, as a practical and as a theoretical presentation of the subject... The Perspective is representative of the scientific, pragmatic spirit of inquiry that developed during the first half of the seventeenth century; the most prestigious example is Descartes”Discours de la méthode, published in 1635, eight years after Aleaume's book was written. "The most important mathematical work of Bouvelles ... (It) Includes chapters on stellated polygons, which had been discussed in Bradwardine's 'De geometria speculaticva' (1495). Extensive compilation of 19 works in 42 parts of "the highly experienced and famous chymist, John Rudolph Glauber" (Ferguson I, 322) in Latin, mostly first Latin editions, bound in 4 vols. "His first book: 'Furni novi Philosophici' ... is certainly one of the most remarkable books on chemistry of the seventeenth century... He was a keen observer, a persevering and successful experimenter and inventor... As a matter of fact he was far ahead of his time in some of his economical views (Ferguson I, 329). - Overall evenly browning, slight spotting in places, partially with brown spot to top margin, minor occasional worming. Lacking 4 plates and 1 title, the latter enclosed loose in duplicate from other copies. Inner joints partly broken. Endpapers with ms. tables of contents. Als Geometer und Kartograph hat er einen großen Teil des Kantons Basel aufgenommen, 1667-70 erstellte er mit Hilfe seines Sohnes Georg Friedrich eine Karte des Elsass. - Beide Werke gering gebräunt; der Kupfertitel vor (I) gebunden. Schönes, für ein Gebrauchsbuch gut erhaltenes Exemplar.

Das Format zeigt an, daß es sich hier um ein handliches Nachschlagewerk zum praktischen Gebrauch handeln soll. Nach VD 17 fehlt eine gefalt. Holzschnittafel ("Der Rheinländische Schue in 1000 scrupul getheilt"), die aber inhaltlich kaum Bezug hat u. sowohl bei einem Vergleichexemplar wie auch bei dem zweiten im VD 17 verzeichneten Expl. nicht vorhanden ist. - Gebräunt u. etwas wasserrandig, S. 179 unten angeschnitten. Ohne den bei Vergleichsexpl. ebenfalls fehlenden, 1666 datierten Kupfertitel, den VD 17 nur für die Ausg. 1695 angibt.

Gilt wegen ihrer Nähe zu Rhetikus und Kopernikus als die wissenschaftlich interessanteste Ausgabe des Textes. Unter den auf Hartmann zurückgehenden Illustrationen eine fast blattgroße anatomische Darstellung des menschlichen Auges. - Etwas gebräunt, stellenweise im Rand wasserfleckig.
