Under the Hammer: Library on Pietism

One of the most important private libraries on the history of Pietism, Anabaptists, Brethren, Enthusiasts and Mystics, will be auctioned end of April 2010. On April 27 and 28, German auctioneers Reiss & Sohn will offer the better part of the collection of a late German scholar, reckoned as one of the foremost experts on this subject. About 3,000 volumes, arranged in more than 600 lots, will be auctioned. The sale comprises first and rare editions of the works of Gottfried Arnold, Conrad Beissel, Jakob Böhme, Antoinette Bourignon, Thieleman van Braght, Johann Georg Gichtel, Jeanne Marie Guyon, Jane Leade, John Pordage, Philipp Jakob Spener, Gerhard Tersteegen, Nikolaus Ludwig of Zinzendorf, and many others. Moreover, the library includes early and important editions of the Bible, early printed books from the time of the Reformation, early American imprints, as well as some autograph letters and manuscripts.
