(Index). Hldr. um 1900 mit Rvg., Rtitel u. goldgepr. Monogramm auf Vorderdeckel, Gelenke u. Ecken fachgerecht restauriert.

First edition of the outstanding work on naval architecture. "One of the most important books in the history of naval architecture, the first to elaborate a complete theory of shipbuilding, and to give rules for finding the centre of gravity and carrying power of ships" (Horblit). With double-page engr. dedication, double-page engr. title with view of Stockholm and 62 double-page engr. plates. - Engraved title repaired to centre fold and somewhat dusty, else a fine copy. Lacking the small leaves of letterpress as usual. Bound in half-calf around 1900, spine gilt, gilt initials to front cover, joints and corners expertly restored.
