Text and atlas in two volumes. Text in second edition, composed of the text sheets of the first edition, with most of the preliminaries reset (see Atabey 95; probably lacking a half-title). Text volume with lithographed portrait, 1 lithographed plate, 1 plate with inscriptions and 2 lithographed maps on 1 sheet and additional one engr. portrait of Belzoni. - Atlas in first edition, 2 parts in 1. Part 1 with 34 plates (numbered 1-44) in etching, lithography and aquatint, mostly coloured. The scarce part 2 with 6 lithographed plates (of which 5 hand coloured and 1 printed in black and yellow). "This was the first English work of any importance to use lithography" (Atabey). - Minor browning and foxing. Minor offsetting to some folding plates. Two plates with tears to gutter, another more heavily trimmed at bottom margin with partial loss of inscription. Map in text volume with short tear. Portrait with small red ink mark at bottom. Contemporary brown full-calf with gilt label and fillets to spine, blind- and gilt-stamped cover fillets, gilt fillets to outer edges and inner-dentelles, as well as gilt-stamped armorial supralibros (text volume) and contemporary brown full-calf with, gilt label and fillets to spine triple gilt-stamped cover fillets and blind-stamped cover border and gilt fillets to outer edges and inner-dentelles; both slightly rubbed and bumped, covers of text volume somewhat faded, both rebacked to style and faded.
