Third and most comprehensive Basle edition. With the Münster-Holbein map in Harrisse's state B, "Asia" is printed in a somewhat different and smaller type, but the "Tropus capricorni" is printed below the tropical line. - Light browning in places, small wormtraces at end (with small loss of letters), ink markings to pp. 204 & 205. Map carefully cleaned and re-glued, still slight browning here and there, with a few small tears and tiny holes (esp. at the earlier folds), at left marginal tear affecting image skilfully restored and part of blank margin supplied. Bound in 18th century brown calf, spine richly gilt, slightly rubbed. 16th century ms. ownership inscription and numbering to title. Lacking final leaf with the second printer's device.

Erstmalig unter Einschluss der Cortes-Briefe sowie 'De moluccis' von Maximilianus Transsylvanus und Missionsberichten aus Mexiko. "What the Münster-Holbein map lacks in precision it gains in richness of artistic decoration. Huge sea-monsters, mermaids, and an early high-pooped galleon embellish the oceans. The surrounding border to the map is filled with vivid vignettes of real or outlandish local scenes - winged serpents, grotesquely big-lipped natives, hunting scenes and feasting cannibals" (Shirley). Die Weltkarte hier nach Harrisse im Zustand B, "ASIA" in kleinerer Type gedruckt, der Schriftzug "Tropicus capricorni" hier aber unterhalb des südlichen Wendekreises. - Stellenw. leicht gebräunt, gegen Ende mit Wurmspuren mit kl. Buchstabenverlusten. S. 204 u. 205 mit Randanstreichungen in Tinte. Karte sorgfältig gereinigt u. stabilisiert, teilw. noch leicht gebräunt, wenige winzige Löchlein u. Einrisse (vor allem an den früheren Faltstellen), links sorgfältig rest. Randeinriss bis in das Bild u. ca. 10 cm des w. Randes ergänzt. Titel mit hs. Besitzvermerk des 16. Jh. u. Num. Es fehlt das letzte Bl. mit der 2. Druckermarke.
