It is famous for the medieval depiction of the Cyclopses, called the 'Monoculi' on the map, and the parrots and the elephant in Southern Africa. Crowns and scepters identify various African kingdoms throughout the continent" (Betz). Unser Exemplar aus einer der 3 deutschen Ausgaben 1561-1567, mit den bei Betz angegebenen Unterscheidungsmerkmalen: "Verso: Des gantzen Lands Africe... within single woodcut border of knight on horseback at bottom" etc. - Teilw. leicht fleckig u. mit Bräunungsstreifen im ehemaligen Passepartout-Ausschnitt. Schwache Knickfalte im Bug.
