Rare Wall Map
"L'Afrique". Grenzkol. Kupferstich-Karte in 4 Bll. von P. Duval, Paris, 1684; gest. von R. Michault. Mit großer figürl. Titelkartusche und je 1 ornament. Titelleiste; seitl. 4 Legenden. Je ca. 40:51 cm.
Rare wall map in its second state of 3, first published in 1678. "For the first time on a map of Africa, the connection between the Nile River and the two Ptolemaic central African lakes is purposely removed, and they are not shown as a source for the Nile... without the secondary titles, the map measures 72 x 101 cm" (Betz). - 4 sheets, not joined; col. in outline. Overall some browning, some marginal waterstaining and small fraying.
Betz 122.2 (von 3); Norwich 38 Anm.; Tooley, Africa 38; Pastoureau S. 136 u. 146, Nr. 68-71. - Seltene Wandkarte, erstmals 1678 erschienen. Die jeweiligen Bll. auch einzeln hrsg. und mit eigenständiger Titelleiste (ca. 6 cm hoch) versehen, die beim Zusammensetzten entfallen würde (Gesamtgröße ca. 70:102 cm). - Gleichmäßig etwas gebräunt, weiße Ränder teils wasserfleckig u. mit kl. Läsuren.
