Großbritannien. "Britannia prout divisa fuit temporibus Anglo-Saxonum". Altkol. Kupferstich-Karte (von J. Blaeu, französ. Ausgabe des Atlas Maior, 1663-1667). Mit ausgem. figürl. Kartusche, 10 (9 kol., 1 nicht ausgefüllt) kl. Gebietswappen und seitlich kol. Bordüren mit je 7 Darstellungen aus der angelsächsischen Geschichte. 41:52,5 cm.
Rare. Copied after Speed's prototype of 1611 with the vignettes at sides, but "Blaeu's unknown engraver has recreated each of the 14 scenes as an unmistakeable Dutch miniature in the dramatic style of the greater paintings of the time" (Sh.). First published in 1645, our copy from the French edition of the Atlas Maior, 1663-67 with pag. "O 51-52". - Original col., map in outline. Small rust stain at center of image, light shine-through of text in places. Else a fine copy.
