"Adressed to the common reader, the primary aim was to make known and to defend the new world picture of Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo by showing its agreement with reason and experience against subservice Aristotelian doctrines and literal biblical interpretations ... In the 1640 edition of the 'Discovery', Wilkins added the sensational idea that it might be possible to contrive a way of flying to the moon" (DSN XIV, 363). Somit kann Wilkins als einer der frühesten Pioniere der Raumfahrt gelten. Die Kupfer zeigen Planeten und astronomische Figuren. - Vereinzelt gering fleckig.
