Tafeln von E. Bott, A. Forbriger u. F. v. Laer. 52 S. Mod. Pp., Vorderdeckel mit mont. Or.-Umschlag; Umschlag gebräunt u. fleckig.

Very rare. Only 2 copies appear at auction in the past 30 years. With lith. title-page and 17 lith. plates depicting the growing towns in Mississippi Valley, including: "Cincinnati, taken from Belle Vue on Sycamore Hill", "Louisville, Ky. Taken from the Public Landing", "Lexington, Ky. Taken from the Transylvania University", "Mouth of the Licking River, Ky. Opposite Cincinnati", "The Ohio State Fair. At Camp Washington near Cincinnati", "State Capitol, Columbus Oh.", "Devil’s Bake-Oven & Grand Tower, On the Mississippi", "Cathedral, Places d’Armes, New Orleans", "Mechanic’s Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio", "New Orleans", "View on the Great Miami. Near North Bend", "Pittsburgh, Pa.", "Maysville, Ky.", "Memphis, Ten.", "Galena, Ill.", "Burlington, Iowa" and "Vicksburgh, Miss.". Howes notes 19 plates, however all but 1 known copy include only 17. - Foxing and slight browning throughout, heavier to margins, minor marginal waterstaining in parts, small marginal lesions in places, stamp of Minorite order to title-page, single small wormhole at beginning, causing minor loss of letter to title-page, stronger marginal lesions covered with archive tape on both sides to last leaf. Bound in mod. boards, original wrapper mounted to upper cover; wrapper browned and stained.

Howes W-255. - Erste Ausgabe, sehr selten. "One of the great rarities of Midwestern pictorial Americana" (Eberstadt). In den letzten 30 Jahren konnten wir nur 2 weitere Exemplare im Handel finden. Die schönen Ansichten aus der Lithographieanstalt Otto Onken zeigen die wachsenden Städte im Mississippi-Tal. Wie üblich mit 17 Tafeln, nur 1 Exemplar mit 19 Tafeln wie bei Howes bekannt. - Stockfleckig u. etwas gebräunt, im Rand stärker, teilw. minimal wasserrandig, stellenw. kl. Randläsuren, Titel mit Stempel des Minoritenordens, zu Beginn mit einzelnem Wurmloch im Fußsteg, Titel dadurch mit minimalem Buchstabenverlust, letztes Bl. mit größeren Randläsuren im Außensteg, beideitig mit Archivband überklebt.
