The art of fencing. Represented in proper figures, exhibiting the several passes, encloses, disarms etc. Sold by John Bowles at the Black Horse in Cornhill. O. O. u. Dr., um 1730. (23:14,5 cm). 24 num. Kupfertafeln. Späterer Hldr. mit Rvg., goldgepr. Rtitel u. Deckelfileten; gering berieben, kaum fleckig.
Rare sequence of 24 engr. plates depicting fencers in detailed contemporary costumes. - Some browning and foxing, heavier in parts, beginning and end a bit dusty, backed marginal tear to plate 1, occasional marginal waterstain. Bound in later half-leather, spine and cover fillets gilt; minor rubbing and staining.
ESTC T126517; nicht bei Thimm, Gelli u. Pardoel. - Sehr selten im Handel. Die Folge von dynamischen Fechtpositionen zeigt die Fechter in detailreichen Kostümen der Zeit. Jede Tafel mit erläuternder Bildunterschrift. - Etwas gebräunt u. stockfleckig, teilw. stärker, zu Beginn u. am Schluss etwas angestaubt, Taf. 1 mit hinterlegtem Randeinriss, vereinzelt mit Wasserfleck im Rand.
