Die fein kolorierten Aquatinta-Tafeln mit Ansichten der frühesten Eisenbahn-Anlagen Großbritanniens, die zum Referenzmodell für die Entwicklung der Eisenbahn weltweit wurden. Die Ansichten von Thomas Talbot Bury (1811-1877), gestochen von H. Pyall, zeigen den Tunnelbau, Viadukte, Brücken und Bahnhöfe. Die einigen Exemplaren zusätzlich beigegebenen 3 gefalt. Tafeln nach I. Shaw. gest. von S. G. Hughes sind hier nicht enthalten (vgl. Tooley). - Provenienz: Aus der Bibliothek des Comte Louis Széchényi (1781-1855) mit dessen Stempel mit Wappen u. The plates show prominent buildings and other noteworthy places, the text-illustrations include e.g. multiple pages with the coat-of-arms of Londons noble families or its guilds. - Minimal browning, slight marginal spotting, occasional marginalia, stamps "City of London Libraries" and "Guildhall Library" to title and few plates verso, backed tear to map "The City of London as in Elizabeth's Time", titlepage (vol. 2) and the following leaf with some minor loss of image, otherwise some small scattered marginal tears.
